DRY EYE DISEASE

WHAT IS DRY EYE DISEASE?

Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a prevalent eye condition characterized by insufficient lubrication and moisture on the ocular surface. There are two primary types of DED:
Aqueous Deficiency: This form of DED occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears to maintain proper moisture levels. Tears consist of three crucial components: mucus, water, and oil. In cases of aqueous deficiency, there is an inadequate quantity of these components, leading to dryness.
Evaporative: Evaporative dry eye arises when the composition of your tears is imbalanced, usually due to issues with the meibomian glands. These glands produce the oil layer of your tears, which helps prevent evaporation. When the oil component is insufficient or compromised, your tears evaporate too quickly, causing discomfort.
